Grow Group Life at First Church
At First Church we value grow groups as part of the life of the church. We believe grow groups build connections in ways that other methods of discipleship cannot.
“What exactly is a Growth Group?”
A Growth Group is a transformational community that studies the bible, prays and participates in God’s mission together for the purpose of Gods’ transformational work.
Growth Groups are small groups of people that meet in various locations at various times throughout the week. They follow a Christ centered curriculum that promotes spiritual growth and discipling to others. Groups meet for about 8-10 weeks, and then take a break. After the break, a participant can choose to join their previous group or try a different group. Keeping the groups open to change/new people allows us to remember that Jesus didn’t stay in one “comfortable place”, so neither should we. In Mark 1:38 Jesus said “Let us go somewhere else-to the nearby villages-so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.” As God’s people, we are called not only to be reconciled to God, but to be a part of his reconciling work in the world.
”Jesus lived his life, even the suffering of the cross, “for the joy set before him” (Hebrews 12:2). We can expect to receive the same joy as Jesus as we follow in the steps of his life. The sacrifices will, in the end, be counted as gain as we see people who might never have considered the gospel gathered into God’s family. And there is blessing for each of us as we expand our own circles of friendship to include more people that Jesus loves.”-Janice McWilliams
If you have taken the step of faith to join a growth group, be prepared to witness how ”God is in the Mix” of our everyday life. If you are not currently in a growth group, ask yourself,” Am I too comfortable with my life? Do I feel like I am a part of God’s reconciling work in the world as well as being reconciled to God?”
