Eric Wicks

Eric serves as First Church’s Music Director and has been on staff since 2004. He directs the Wesley Chorale; plays organ and piano for the sanctuary services; selects anthems, solos, and hymns; and helps provide resources for the Crossfire and God’s Country services. Eric is also involved in our sound ministry; he works with our dedicated sound operators to continually improve the quality of our services.

Eric knew he wanted to play the organ when he was just two years old, began piano at the age of six, and was thrilled when he began studying organ with John McCreary at St. Andrew’s Cathedral in Honolulu, Hawaii, at the age of 12. During his high school years, Eric studied with Dr. Kraig Scott at Walla Walla College in College Place, Washington, then went on to earn BM and MM degrees in organ performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he studied with Todd Wilson.

Eric and his wife Elisa live in Butler with their three young sons. They love walking and rowing at Moraine State Park, preparing dishes from Mastering the Art of French Cooking, and reading books by C.H. Spurgeon.

Favorite Scripture: Romans 1:16 and 17
