Well... it’s the weekend before the election. In just a few days America will choose its next leader. Passionate Jesus followers will choose the candidate that seems right to them. But HOW is that choice determined as people who have committed to Jesus as the one who calls the shots in their lives? Is there a “Jesus lens” that we are called to look through as we choose our next leader?

In their book, Lead Like Jesus, Ken Blanchard and Phil Hodges say this: “Self-promotion (pride) and self-protection (fear) are the reigning motivations that dominate the leadership landscape...the way Jesus calls us to follow as leaders [is] to serve rather than be served.” (pp.3-4)

As we think about electing leaders, let’s keep the following words from Jesus about “servant leadership” clearly in view.

MONDAY (11/2): Luke 14:7-11

TUESDAY (11/3): Mark 10:35-45

WEDNESDAY (11/4): Luke 10:25-37

THURSDAY (11/5): John 13:1-17

To prepare for our next times of worship, read the following texts. Pay attention to what they say about choosing our source of hope.

FRIDAY (11/6): Deuteronomy 30:15-20

SATURDAY (11/7): Joshua 24:14-24

SUNDAY (11/8): 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
