Main Passage: "Most of the crowd spread their garments on the road ahead of him, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 Jesus was in the center of the procession, and the people all around him were shouting,

'Praise God for the Son of David!
Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the Lord!
Praise God in highest heaven!' "
Matthew 21:8-9

We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins." Romans 3:22-24

Main Ideas:

1. This message series - Dare to Hope - is inspired by the prophet Jeremiah. During a horrible time for his nation, Jeremiah courageously pointed people to the true, lasting source of hope - our loving God.

2. True courage is giving up your life for the sake of others. Our greatest example of this is seen in Jesus.

3. Many of the people who worshipped Jesus on Palm Sunday only saw him as their savior in the short term. We get so caught up in what is temporary, but Jesus came to be our Savior eternally.

Questions:

  1. Think about what courage means to you. How do you think people best show courage? What are some of the most courageous examples that you have seen or heard about?
  2. What promises has God given us so that we can always hold onto faith and live with courage during trials?
  3. What are daily habits you can do to help you develop courage?
  4. Why did many of the same people that worshipped Jesus as Messiah on Palm Sunday want him crucified just days later?

DARE TO HOPE Challenge: Develop at least one habit during this isolation period that helps build your courage. Examples: spending deliberate time in prayer daily, asking God for faith and courage, doing something every day or week that you're scared to do (reaching out to someone, a form of public speaking, trying something new), doing something that is out of your comfort zone (exercise, reading, spending time in silence, eating healthier).
